If you’re not using a blog as one of your websites, you’re missing out on some great traffic getting possibilities.

Blogs are easy to use and maintain and they allow you to get in contact with your site visitors and learn what they are thinking about. It’s like having a chat with a customer at the cash register – they’ll tell you what they are thinking about and, if you are paying attention, you’ll see if you can fit that into your product or service offering.

Although there are millions of other blogs, one way you can get found on the internet, by the search engines, is to talk about something that everyone else is talking about. Like right now, among hundreds of millions of sports fans the talk is about the World Cup, soccer’s World Series. (A real world series with teams from all over the world competing!)

Although I’m not a real soccer fan, I did come to appreciate the sport during the many years I lived in Germany. If the US is competing, I at least keep an eye on the World Cup and was pleasantly surprised to see the US team play England, a soccer powerhouse, to a 1-1 tie.

What’s the point of this post? By writing about a current news topic, when the search engines crawl through my site, they will automatically lift me a bit higher, at least for awhile, in the rankings. That means there is more possibility that my site will be found. And that goes for you and your website, too.

You can, of course, overdo it. If you’re a dentist in NYC, blogging about a certain movie star’s drug problems may not be appropriate. But commenting on the World Cup? Several hundred million people are watching, and if only a few of them find you…
